Dr. Manabu Ohashi is a Vice Director of the Division of Gastric Surgery at the Cancer Institute Hospital, the Japanese Foundation of Cancer Research, which is the highest volume cancer center in Japan. He graduated from the Niigata University School of Medicine in 1991 and completed the doctoral course in 1997. He trained surgical techniques and oncology at many hospitals in Niigata and Tokyo. After the training, he became an Assistant Professor of the Department of Digestive Surgery at the Niigata University Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences in 2002. He moved to the Division of Gastric Surgery at the Tokyo Metropolitan Cancer and Infectious Diseases Center Komagome Hospital in 2007 and to the present institute in 2013. He has been associated with many pivotal clinical trials conducted by the Japan Clinical Oncology Group (JCOG) and is now the Principal Investigator in JCOG2204.
He is specialized in all types of gastric surgery for gastric neoplasms, especially function-preserving gastrectomy for gastric cancer, such as pylorus-preserving gastrectomy, subtotal (nearly total) gastrectomy and proximal gastrectomy. He has published many peer-reviewed papers regarding these topics so far.
