Trained in general surgery in London and Johannesburg, and in colorectal surgery in St Mark’s Hospital London and Mount Sinai Hospital Toronto. Spent 6 years as a district general hospital consultant surgeon in Abergavenny and the last 6 years as an academic surgeon in Cardiff.

Trustee & Council member of Royal Society of Medicine: secretary of Surgical Section. Also undertake work for NICE, BASO, RCS and GMC. Education lead, academic representative and mentoring / careers lead in general surgery for the Welsh Deanery.

Major clinical interests include intestinal failure, advanced and recurrent rectal / anal cancer, polyposis and other genetic disorders and specialist proctology.

Research interests include genetic changes in colorectal cancer and metastases, screening and early diagnosis of colorectal cancer, gene therapy for Pyoderma Gangrenosum and Familial Adenomatous Polyposis and the role of guidelines in controlling surgical practice.
